Where is Mt. Kilauea located?

Mount Kilauea is located on the Big Island of Hawaii. One of the largest active volcanoes in the world, the mountain has been constantly erupting for more than 30 years. The volcano itself is estimated to be 600,000 years old, while the oldest rock is 23,000 years of age.

Although Mount Kilauea is in a constant state of eruption, the lava flows have been relatively small, and little damage has occurred in surrounding areas. The mountain is one of five active volcanoes on the Big Island; the others are Loihi, Mauna Loa, Hualalai and Haleakala. The last major explosion to cause significant deaths took place more than 200 years ago.
