Depending on the actual brand, Champagne has an alcohol by volume, or ABV, percentage of 12.5 to 13.5 percent, which translates to between 25 and 27 proof. A typical serving of Champagne, 3.5 ounces, has 87 calories, 2.8 grams of carbohydrates, 5 milligrams of sodium and 102 milligrams of potassium. It also has trace amounts of calcium, iron and protein.
A true bottle of Champagne is one that has grapes grown, fermented and bottled in the Champagne region of France. Although the grapes may be the exact same ones used, grapes grown and produced in other regions of the world, such as Southern California or Australia, cannot be called Champagne and are referred to as sparkling wines.
