The global average number of hours a person spends reading every week is 6.5 hours. Indians read the most, with an average of 10.7 hours a week. Korea's readers, with an average of 3.1 hours a week, read the least.

Thailand, China, the Philippines and Egypt are also among the five countries with the most dedicated readers. Taiwan and Japan read the least, aside from Korea. The United States and the United Kingdom are near the bottom of the list, with averages of 5.7 and 5.3 hours of reading a week. The five countries where people devote the most time to watching TV are Thailand, the Philippines, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia and the United States.
