How much cash should you give as a wedding gift?

The appropriate amount of cash to give as a wedding present differs in various situations. If the recipients are acquaintances or distant friends, etiquette dictates that $75 to $100 is an appropriate gift. If the recipients are close friends or family, $100 to $150 is an appropriate amount.

It is not unusual to give cash as a gift and, in fact, many couples appreciate it. It has become more popular to give cash, donate to a couple's favorite charities or even contribute to honeymoon funds. It is acceptable to give a slightly lower amount to couples who are having a destination wedding since the cost of travel is often an added financial burden on guests. It is, however, not polite to skip the gift altogether.
