How much does it cost to take a food handling test?

As of 2015, it costs $12.95 to take a food handling test for certification, according to the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals. The online program is good in all 50 states and is specifically compliant with state laws in Arizona, California, Florida, Texas and Illinois.

The National Registry of Food Safety Professionals states that the online certification test consists of 40 multiple choice questions and is available in English, Spanish and Chinese. Individuals must score at least 70 percent or higher to pass. Those who pass receive a Certificate of Completion and a wallet card to verify that they are certified food handlers.
