The cost of jeans was approximately $2.49 in 1950, which is considerably less then what people spend today. Jeans were originally designed for miners and farmers, but by the 1950s, they were becoming increasingly popular among teenagers.
Before the 1950s, fashion styles between adults and teenagers were very similar. There was no specific fashion niche for teenagers. However, with teenagers desiring to break away from their parents' ideas and looks, fashion started to come into play through small acts of rebellion. Jeans are most associated with American culture as the first jeans were created using denim or dungaree cloth in America by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss.
