How much electricity does my oven use?

When an oven is on it uses very large amounts of electricity, ranging from 1000 watts to 5000 watts. When not in use, ovens require almost no energy at all. The amount of electricity used by an oven depends entirely on how often and how long it is used.
Bringing an oven up to temperature is a waste of energy if there is nothing in the oven, so try to bake multiple dishes at once or put one dish right in after the other. Cooking larger dishes longer is the best way to make economical use of your oven. Many smaller dishes can be prepared in a toaster oven, saving electricity (if not counter space).
