How much is the fashion industry worth?

In 2014 the global apparel industry was valued at more than $1,162 billion, representing growth of about 2.2 percent from 2013. The apparel industry is made up of clothing, luxury goods like handbags, accessories, footwear and textiles.

The global womenswear industry makes up the largest portion of the fashion industry market value. It was projected to grow by 12 percent in 2014, bringing in approximately $621 billion. The menswear industry was forecasted to bring in $402 billion in 2014.

In 2013 U.S. retail sales of fashion apparel were more than $360 billion. In support of this demand in the U.S. and around the world, the fashion industry employs approximately 4.2 million people as of 2014.
