How much flax seed should you take per day?

The suggested intake of flax seed is 1 to 2 tablespoons per day, according to WebMD. Rather than consuming flax seed oil or whole flax seeds, experts recommend ground flax seed for maximum absorption to occur.
WebMD suggests a few different ways to consume flax seed more consistently, including adding a couple spoonfuls into oatmeal, yogurt, soup and smoothies. Adding ground flax seed to dark sauces and meat mixtures also makes it less noticeable to picky eaters. Ground flax seed serves as a partial substitute for flour in baked items, such as waffles, muffins, bread, bagels and rolls. Replace 1/4 to 1/2 cups of flour with the ground flax seed.
