How much do LPNs make?

LPNs, or licensed practical nurses, make a median salary of $41,540 a year, which is about $19.97 an hour, according to May 2012 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The upper 10 percent make more than $57,360, and the bottom 10 percent make less than $30,970.

About 80 percent of LPNs work full time, and the work commonly includes nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts in excess of eight hours may also be mandated. Employment of LPNs is predicted to grow by 25 percent through 2022 because of the increasing medical needs of aging baby boomers. LPNs work in nursing-care facilities, hospitals, doctors' offices and for home-health services.
