How much money goes towards the Wounded Warrior charity that is brought in?

The Wounded Warrior Project claims to use 80.6 percent of donations to fund programs and services for program participants, as of 2014. However, an investigation by the Tampa Bay Times and the Center for Investigative Reporting in 2013 found that only 58 percent of donations went towards the charity’s programs.

According to the investigation, which looked at the organization's 990 filings with the Internal Revenue Service from 2008 to 2011, the organization raised $281.2 million in cash and reported fundraising costs of $50.1 million. Its solicitors reported raising $139.3 million and paying professional solicitation campaigns $27 million. The organization reported spending $147.6 million on programs during the time period.
