The sultan of Brunei has an estimated net worth of $20 billion. For his 50th birthday, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah built himself a stadium and paid singer Michael Jackson $17 million to perform three concerts there.

The sultan´s wealth comes from the country´s rich oil deposits. He lives in the largest palace in the world, the Istana Nurul Iman palace. The palace also holds the distinction of being the largest single family residence ever built.

The residence has a stable for the sultan´s 200 polo ponies, five swimming pools, a mosque that can fit 1,500 people, 1,788 rooms and a banquet hall big enough for 5,000 people.
