The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that, in 2012, the median annual salary for airline and commercial pilots was $98,410. This indicates that half of the people employed in the field earned more while half made less.
The size of the airline company made a significant difference when it comes to wages. In a national corporation, a captain's average yearly salary was $135,000. In addition, airline pilots often received benefits, such as free or reduced-cost flights and expense allowances. On the other hand, the same position in a regional airline brought in $55,000. Commercial pilots, who work in such areas as tourism, medical transport and flight schools had a lower median annual salary: $73,280.
