The recommended daily protein intake for adult women is 46 grams. This dosage increases to 71 grams among women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, according to WebMD.
A sedentary adult woman needs roughly .4 grams of protein multiplied by her body weight in pounds, whereas active women require .6 grams of protein for every pound of body weight. In competitive athletic women and light-bodybuilders, this increases to .75 and .85 grams of protein for each pound of weight, says Health.com.
The best sources of protein for women are those with 'complete' protein -containing the nine necessary amino acids- which includes fish, eggs, soybeans, meat and dairy products.
