One egg provides six grams of protein, or 13 percent of the recommended Daily Value. Nearly half the egg's protein is contained in the yolk. Eggs are considered to have one of the highest protein values of any food available.
The protein found in eggs supports muscle size, strength and function in people of all ages. Consuming eggs directly after a workout helps muscles repair themselves. In addition to protein, eggs contain a multitude of vitamins and minerals, including riboflavin, folate, iron, phosphorus, zinc, and vitamins D, E, B6 and B12. Most of an egg's nutrients are found in the yolks, so consuming the entire egg is the key to reaping all the nutritional benefits.
