How much soluble fiber should someone have in their diet?

Women under 50 and teenage girls need about 25 grams of fiber daily; men under 50 and teenage boys need between 30 and 38 grams. It's not important to distinguish between soluble and insoluble fiber when tracking one's intake, according to WebMD.
Adding fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains to the diet increases the intake of fiber, as WebMD explains. Other ways to increase fiber intake include replacing fruit juice with whole fruit, eating high-fiber cereals with at least 5 grams of fiber per serving, replacing refined grains with whole grains where possible, and eating at least one vegetarian meal per week.
