How much does a suit of armor weigh?

A suit of plate armor could weigh up to 100 pounds, but it was preferred to be lighter. Suits that weighed around 25 or 30 pounds offered warriors a balance between mobility and protection, according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Plate armor was often worn over a chain mail body suit and padding to further protect the wearer from blows. As plate armor technology progressed, the armor became thicker and could stop ammunition from early firearms at a distance. However, it could be so heavy at times that it became a danger to the knight wearing it. At the Battlle of Agincourt, for example, more knights died from heat exhaustion than from direct wounds.
