How much weight can a bald eagle carry?

Bald eagles can carry around 5 pounds of weight at any given time. Bald eagles feed on a variety of fish and small mammals.

When searching for prey, the eagles swoop down as they can spot food from more than a mile away. When they locate their prey, they swoop down and seize it in their strong talons. They even swoop down into bodies of water to catch fish. The eagles can grasp the fish or animal in their talons and use their wings to walk or swim to where they will eat. When fully-grown, male bald eagles can reach weights up to nine pounds. Females are relatively bigger weighing in at up to 13 pounds. The average wingspan of bald eagles is seven feet.
