What is a MUGA scan?
By Forinfos - 08/01/2026 - 0 comments
A MUGA scan is a nuclear imaging test that shows how well the heart is pumping. The test uses a radioactive tracer and a specialized camera to take pictures of the heart as it pumps, according to the American Heart Association.
A MUGA scan measures ejection fraction, which is the amount of blood pumped out of the heart with each contraction. A normal ejection fraction ranges between 50 and 75 percent, meaning that the heart pumps out 50 to 75 percent of the blood in the left ventricle with each heartbeat. The test can be done at rest, during exercise or both.
