According to WebMD, Mycolog II cream is prescribed for fungal infections. It is a combination of two drugs. An anti-fungal halts the fungus in its tracks, while an anti-inflammatory decreases itching, swelling and redness.
WebMD explains that Mycolog II cream is only for external skin use. It is usually applied twice a day, and no dressing in needed. The full prescription must be used, even after symptoms have disappeared. Otherwise, the fungus is likely to resurface.
Typical mild side effects include skin irritation, burning or dryness, WebMD warns. More serious side effects, which should be promptly discussed with a doctor, include stretch marks, skin discoloration, acne and unwanted hair growth.
