The name or designation of the presidential helicopter is "Marine One." This call sign is assigned to any rotary-type aircraft that is piloted by marines and tasked with transporting the president. According to a Federal Aviation document, the president inherits the call sign of the service, plus "One."

As of September of 2014, aviation support for the White House is currently tasked to VMX-1, which is a Marine aviation unit. During the years, many helicopters have been used as presidential transports, which include the Bell UH-1 Huey, Sikorsky CH-3 Sea King, Sikorsky CH-34C Choctaw, Boeing CH-46C Sea Knight, Bell 47-J Sioux and the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk. Alphanumerical designations are modified from "VH" to "CH" to reflect the VIP role of the each aircraft.
