The river that flows through London, England, is called the River Thames. It is the longest river contained entirely in England and the second longest in the United Kingdom.

The River Thames is 2,000 years old. A tidal river, it rises and falls as much as 8 meters (26 feet) between high and low tides. It is 215 miles (346 kilometers) long. As of 2014, the Thames is one of the cleanest rivers in Europe, despite being responsible for the "Great Stink" in 1958. Boating is very popular on the river, including cruises and tours, as well as aquatic sporting events.
