What is the name of our solar system?

The planetary system in which the Sun, Earth and nearby planets are located is called the Solar System, with the first letters capitalized. Other networks of planets orbiting stars are called planetary systems and are named after the most prominent star in their systems.

The Solar System contains one central star, the Sun, as well as eight planets and several hundred dwarf planets. The Inner Solar System is the name for the area that comprises the four terrestrial planets closest to the sun. It is separated from the Outer Solar System by a dense asteroid belt that contains millions of objects in close orbit.
