According to their official website, the National Center for Health Statistics is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Their mission is to provide statistical information to guide policy and improve the health of the American public.
Wikipedia states that the NCHS is an agency of the U.S. Federal Statistical System and is headquartered in Hyattsville, Md. There are four primary data collection programs at the NCHS: the National Vital Statistics System, the National Health Interview Survey, the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the National Health Care Surveys.
