The word "cookie" comes from the Dutch word "koekie," which means "little cake." The cookie originated in Persia around the 7th century, becoming popular in Europe in the 14th century. They became popular across the world because the ingredients they are made from travel well. In some English-speaking countries, cookies are called biscuits.
