When is National Nacho Day?

National Nachos Day is celebrated on November 6 of every year. The holiday honors the creation of chips, beans or meat, melted cheese and various toppings originally created by Mexican chef Ignacio Anaya in 1943.
Legend has it that Ignacio Anaya invented the nacho to stem the hunger of a group of army wives when all he had on hand was some tortillas and cheese. The signature term "nacho" that stuck to the dish refers to Anaya's nickname. Today, dozens of nacho recipes exist on websites such as foodnetwork.com, and the town of Piedras Negras, where Anaya worked at the Moderno Restaurant, holds an International Nacho Festival each year in his honor.
