As of 2015, the need for a booster shot for shingles has not been determined. The shingles vaccine is recommended for administration a single time and is effective for at least six years, states the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In adults over the age of 60, research indicates that the shingles vaccine reduces the chances of a person developing the disease by about 50 percent, according to the CDC. It is most effective in those between the ages of 60 and 69 but is somewhat effective in older people. The CDC recommends that people who are 60 years old or older receive the shingles vaccine.
