Do I need to seal travertine tiles?

When installed indoors, travertine tiles need to be sealed with a standard stone sealer intended for indoor use, but when installed outdoors, the tiles can be left unsealed. The sealer smooths the stone tiles and makes them easier to clean.
Travertine tiles are textured stone tiles that lend a rustic appearance to decorating projects. Some travertine is finished with resin to minimize the texture for a smoother feel. Travertine tiles are best for low-moisture areas. The tiles are sealed with two coats of any standard stone sealer. The sealer needs to be reapplied once every three to five years for best results. Sealing is optional for outdoor tile applications. When sealing outdoors, a sealer recommended for exterior use should be used.
