Canadian citizens do not need a visa to enter the United States for studying or visiting; however, they do need a passport, notes the Embassy of the United States. As of 2015, Canadians citizens are usually granted a 6-month stay in the United States upon time of entry.

Immigrants, fiances and investors must qualify for a visa before receiving entry to the United States, notes the United States Embassy. If a Canadian citizen wants to extend his stay in the country past six months, he must disclose the information before arriving or face permanent barring. Native Canadians and members of Canada's First Nations are free to travel across the border.
