Is a VIN needed to register a car in Canada?

A vehicle identification number (VIN) is required in Canada to register a vehicle in addition to other required documents, such as proof of ownership, proof of insurance and a new vehicle information statement provided from the vendor. The required paperwork can vary from province to province inside Canada, but to begin any sort of registration or insurance process, the car must have a VIN.
Drivers can contact their local registration offices and discuss everything they should bring. Every car has a plate on it that has the VIN engraved or stamped onto it. It is normally located at the base of the windshield on the left side of the car. If this is missing, the owner can apply for a VIN.
