Is Neosporin safe for dogs?

According to Dr. James Hornbuckle of Golden Isles Animal Hospital, Neosporin is safe to use on dogs with minor scrapes or abrasions. It is important to consult with a veterinarian if the dog's symptoms do not clear up within three to four days, as certain abrasions can signify infection.
The Animal Hospital of East Davie explains that it is always best to treat animal abrasions with veterinary medicated ointment, but Neosporin is a safe alternative. It is important for dog owners to consult with a veterinarian if the abrasion is due to a bite from another animal or is draining fluid in order to determine if antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications are needed.
