Can Neosporin be used on dogs?

Although Neosporin is an ointment for human use, pet owners can use it on their dogs for small cuts, scrapes or abrasions. Neosporin is a triple antibiotic ointment that can heal these minor injuries in dogs. Two to three daily applications of this ointment may resolve the problem in 3 to 4 days.
If minor cuts or lesions do not heal in this time period, then the animal should be seen by a veterinarian. Similarly, if there are signs of swelling, redness or tenderness then the dog should be checked by a veterinarian.
Before applying Neosporin on a small cut or abrasion, the wound should be cleaned with an antiseptic. For deep lacerations, a bandage should be placed on the affected area to keep the wound clean and control any bleeding. This type of wound requires that a dog see a veterinarian for proper treatment.
