To neutralize the smell of bleach, scrub the affected area with a mixture of white vinegar and lemon juice, then rinse with cool water and dry the area with a towel. This procedure takes about 10 minutes and requires lemons, vinegar, a knife, a bowl, a spoon, a sponge, liquid dish soap, cool water and a towel.
- Prepare the cleaning mixture
Roll several room-temperature lemons on a hard surface, then slice them in half, and squeeze them into a bowl. Add an equal amount of white vinegar. Stir the solution with a spoon.
- Scrub the affected area
Dip a sponge in the cleaning solution, wring it out, and scrub the area affected by the bleach smell. Moisten the sponge periodically, and scrub vigorously.
- Rinse the area
Rinse the sponge in cool running water. Discard the leftover cleaning solution, rinse the bowl, and fill it with several inches of cool water. Dip the sponge in the bowl, squeeze it, and rinse the work area. If there is a pungent vinegar odor, add a drop of liquid dish soap to the rinse water. Perform a final rinse with pure water.
- Dry the area with a towel
Place a folded towel over the rinsed surface, and press on it until no visible moisture remains.
