"A New Leaf" is a short story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was first published in the Saturday Evening Post on 4 July, 1931. It focuses on the budding romance between two young Americans in Paris.
The story begins when Julia Ross is introduced to Dick Ragland by a mutual friend, Phil Hoffman. Phil warns Julia that Dick is a social outcast, but she is taken in by his charm and good looks. Dick is an alcoholic, and Julia is repulsed by his drunken excesses, which she compares to Jekyll and Hyde. Ultimately Dick loses his battle with alcohol, leaving Julia heartbroken.
