Natural resources in New York State include harbors, the Great Lakes, forests, soil and minerals. Niagara Falls, the most powerful waterfall in North America, helps provide electricity for the state's population.
New York State's water not only provides electricity, but is used as waterways for shipping and transporting goods. These bodies of water also provide much of America's seafood and fish. The state boasts a booming mineral business and minerals like salt, gypsum, talc and garnet are often found there, as well as salt, clay and sand. One-half of New York State is covered in forests, much of which are used for timber and paper manufacturing.
