What is a non-mineral oil hand lotion?

Hand lotions that do not contain mineral oil include Crabtree and Evelyn's Ultra Moisturizing Hand Therapy, lotions made by The Naked Bee, Nature's Gate lotions and de-luxe MAISON hand lotion. Instead of mineral oil, these lotions use plant-based moisturizers, such as nut oils, aloe and shea butter.

Mineral oil can be problematic when used on the skin. It can increase photosensitivity, which increases the likelihood of sun damage. Additionally, mineral oil typically alters the body's natural ability to moisturize itself. This, in turn, makes it more likely that skin becomes chapped or dry, which are two of the conditions that lotion is supposed to relieve.
