What is a normal range for the results of a GFR lab test?

A GFR test result of 60 or above is considered a normal range. A Glomerular Filtration Rate, or GFR test is a blood test that is used to determine whether the kidneys are functioning properly and is used to assess a patient's risk of developing kidney disease.
A GFR cannot be increased but treatment can help prevent it from declining. A GFR result below 60 may indicate kidney disease and usually requires additional tests. Patients may be able to limit their potential risk with changes in lifestyle, diet and medication. A GFR below 15 indicates kidney failure. At this level, the treatment options are limited to dialysis or a transplant.
