Normal creatinine levels for adult men and women range from 0.7 to 1.3 and 0.6 to 1.1 milligrams per deciliter, respectively, according to MedlinePlus. Men usually have a greater muscle mass than women, which results in their having a higher serum creatinine level than that of women.
The serum creatinine test checks the health of the kidneys by measuring the amount of creatinine in the blood, explains MedlinePlus. Results with abnormally high levels of creatinine may indicate conditions such as kidney failure, dehydration and urinary tract blockage. Abnormally low levels, on the other hand, may indicate conditions such as muscular dystrophy and myasthenia gravis.
