What is a northern red oak tree?

The northern red oak can grow to 100 feet tall and is known for its reddish-brown color. It is a fast-growing deciduous tree found throughout southeastern Canada, south to Georgia in the United States and as far west as Oklahoma.

This tree thrives in well-drained soil, flowers from April to May and fruits from September to October. Its bark has long fissures that look like stripes, and the bark changes from a greenish-gray color to brown or black with age. The acorns of the northern red oak appear reddish brown. Its leaves are yellow and green during the year, but they change to red or brown in autumn.
