What is the numerical factor of a term?

By Forinfos - 09/10/2025 - 0 comments

A numerical factor of a term is any number that can be factored out of the coefficient. For example, the term 10*x has a factor of 5 and can be reduced to 5*(2*x).

It is possible for there to be a numerical factor for an expression that contains more than one term. For example, the expression 4*x+8 has a numerical factor of 4 and could be reduced to 4*(x+2). A term typically refers to a monomial, which consists of a combination of a numerical coefficient and sometimes variables. When multiple monomials are added or subtracted together, they can form expressions, often known as binomial (with two terms) or polynomials (many terms).
