A number of nutrients are found in meat and fish. They include proteins, vitamin E, zinc, iron, B vitamins and magnesium. Proteins in fish and meat help build muscles, bones, skin, blood, enzymes and hormones.
Like carbohydrates and fat, protein provides calories. Iron in fish and meat carries oxygen in the blood. Magnesium releases energy from muscles and helps build bones. Zinc assists the immune system and is part of biochemical reactions in the body. B vitamins help the nervous system function properly, build tissue and play a role in the creation of red blood cells. In addition, fish contain omega-3 fatty acids that can help reduce heart disease risk.
