Why is nylon used for parachutes?
By Forinfos - 08/10/2025 - 0 comments
Manufacturers prefer nylon as it has proven to be a strong, springy material that makes parachutes that are lightweight, easy to pack, resistant to mildew and less expensive. Although many different materials have been used to manufacture parachutes, ripstop nylon is the most popular parachute fabric.
Ripstop nylon gets its name from its aptitude in stopping any small rips in the fabric from spreading. Some types of parachutes are made of a nylon and carbon fiber combination, which makes them stronger without compromising performance and is a lightweight, transportable material. This strength allows parachutists to reach the ground calmly and safely.
