Is Obama a democrat?

Since his initial run for Illinois State Senate, Obama has run as part of the Democratic party and, as of 2014, is serving his second term as President of the United States. As part of the Illinois State Senate, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans.

Obama's legislative and presidential policy history also identifies him as a Democrat with support towards health care reform as well as marriage equality. As of 2014, Obama is the first sitting president to declare his personal support for the legalization of same-sex marriage and has further affirmed this view during his second inaugural address in 2013.
