What is Octagon soap?

Octagon soap is a type of lye soap used mostly for laundry purposes. People also use it as an all-purpose soap. Octagon soap was first produced in the early 1900s, and it was most popular during the 1930s.

During the height of Octagon soap's popularity, the soap was a brown, roughly cut bar of soap that had coupons printed on its wrapping.

Octagon soap was first produced by the Colgate company. It later joined the Palmolive-Peet company after the Palmolive-Peet company gained popularity for its floating soap. Later Peet was dropped from the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet company and is now called Colgate-Palmolive.
