The Dodge service manual specifies SAE 5W-20 oil for use in the Powertech 4.7-liter V8 engine. For best performance and protection, the manufacturer only recommends oils that are American Petroleum Institute certified and meet the requirements of DaimlerChrysler's material standard MS-6395.
Synthetic oils that meet the requirements of MS-6395 are Pennzoil Platinum, Royal Purple, Castrol Edge, Havoline Synthetic and Quaker State Ultimate Durability. MS-6395 compliant conventional oils are Pennzoil yellow bottle, Valvoline white bottle, Mobil Super and Quaker State Advanced Durability. The capacity of a Dodge 4.7-liter engine is 5 quarts of oil, in addition to 1 quart for the filter.
