How old is the recommended age for a Hepatitis A vaccination?

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that babies receive the hepatitis A vaccine at 12 months. People 18 years or older can receive a combination vaccine that protects against both hepatitis A and B.

The hepatitis A vaccine is given in two doses separated by six months, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Patients may receive the combination shot in three doses over a six-month period. People with allergies to vaccine components, pregnant women and those experiencing a mild illness should not get the shot. People at high risk for hepatitis A, such as those with a chronic liver disease, should begin the vaccination process.
