Onions are vegetables with origins that extend thousands of years. Onions are a staple that provide both flavor enhancement for food and health benefits for the body.
As of 2014, experts believe that onions were found in Chinese gardens as far back as 5,000 years ago. They grew wild in many varieties from climate to climate and are believed to have been one of the first cultivated crops. Some ancient people, among them the Egyptians, believed onions have mystical or magical powers; this may be attributed to the onion's natural antiseptic qualities. Onions are free of fat, cholesterol and sodium, low in calories and rich in vitamins A and C, folate and fiber.
