The Los Angeles Dodgers won World Series titles in 1981 and 1988. The Dodgers were the only Major League Baseball team to win the championship twice in that decade, though several teams played in the World Series at least twice.
The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees four games to two in 1981 with Tom Lasorda as manager. Prior to that victory, the Dodgers had not won a World Series since 1965 and lost in four straight appearances. Led by National League MVP Kirk Gibson, the Dodgers triumphed again in 1988 under Lasorda, beating the Oakland A's in five games.
