Are all orange cats male?

A common misconception is that all orange cats are male; however, the truth is that some orange cats are female although the chances of this are rare. The genes associated with coat color are on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes, while males have one only.

Males only need the genes for an orange coat color to be present on their X chromosome for them to have an orange coat. Females, on the other hand, need both of their X chromosomes to have the genes for an orange coat color, making the possibility of this extremely unique and rare.
