How are oranges dried to make Christmas ornaments?

Oranges to make Christmas ornaments are dried in an oven. First, they are cut into thin slices, and excess moisture is removed by blotting them with paper towels. Then, they are baked at the lowest oven temperature possible for 3 hours and turned several times during this process.

After the oranges have been baked, a hole is pierced through each one and thread or fishing line is inserted through it for tree hanging. Some people bake extra orange slices for their children to play with.

Other people also hang different types of dried fruit, whole fruit and other garden items on Christmas trees. Possibilities include whole oranges, pomegranates and persimmons.
